Hasan Abu Nimah wrote: Palestinians, like everyone else in the world, are not angels. Some among them have undoubtedly committed mistakes — for which collectively Palestinians have suffered and paid a price. Still, it is hard to think of an example of a people today who has been singled out as fair game for demonization and abuse for political gain like the Palestinians.

Son of Abraham

It started with former speaker of the House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, who told The Jewish Channel, a cable TV station, last December that the Palestinians were an "invented people." He then blamed them for not leaving their homeland to make way for the creation of Israel. The Palestinians, Gingrich said, "had a chance to go many places, and for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and it's tragic."

These cheap attempts by Newt Gingrich and his ilk to twist the facts and turn the truth on its head and trade with history for the sake of self political promotion are a disgrace to democracy.

Where did Newt get his History degree? The University of Phoenix or a Cracker-Jack box?

He also said that Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, and the Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, had "an enormous desire to destroy Israel." This, despite the fact that the Republican-controlled US Congress funds the Palestinian Authority’s security forces.

Newt Gingrich has forgotten that the US Treasury funds the Palestinian Authority mainly to protect the Israeli occupation in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

I must admit to having, in the distant past, made statements about the Palestinians being terrorists, and other things in a similar vein. I made one such statement to a mixed group of people in college. One rather hot girl asked if she looked like a terrorist. I replied in the negative.

The girl was a Palestinian-American. We talked further, and she ended up taking me home. Her Palestinian mother (a christian, as it turned out) fixed a great meal, and we all talked about beliefs and myths. During the course of that evening of good food and pleasant company, I realized that I'd been truly ignorant, and had compunded it by exposing my ignorance to others.

The next day, I apologized to the girl in front of everyone; I mean that literally, as I got up in front of a crowd and told them my story.

It is true that there are Palestinian terrorists. I admit it. Most Palestinian people are just as good as anyone else, just trying to make their way in the world, despite the problems that politicians throw at them.

Thanks Steven of Coulterville; that's very good point, and forgers or ignorant can imply guilt by association.

Even Americans who care nothing for Palestinians should be concerned about what these disturbing trends reveal about their politics. Do they really want to be ruled by people who are so ignorant, arrogant and unprincipled? Do they want to continue to ignore the large cost that unconditional support for Israel and its aggressive policies is imposing on the US?

Ignorant, Arrogant, Unprincipled? Hasan Abu Nimah should look in the mirror and remember that no Americans murdered Jewish Olympic Athletes in Munich, as did Palestinian Black September Terrorists; no Americans acted as suicide bombers against Jewish wedding parties, as did al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade; no Americans murdered elderly Jews on roadsides, as did Islamic Jihad. Americans have long memories.

Who does this Hasan Abu Nimah think he is, lecturing Americans on what feelings Americans should have regarding the legal, Sovereign Jewish State of Israel or the Palestinians? Look to yourself, Mr. Nimah, and try to bring your Islamic rejection of Israel into the perspective of your Terrorist Groups' behavior. Look to the ignorance and illiteracy that plagues Palestinian children, because their parents seek to destroy Israel rather than educate their children and grow their economy. As an American, I resent your blind accusations.

Good to know that you are American, then what Israel has got to do with America?

Sidewinder,

then what Israel has got to do with America?

Whatever we want.

We are free to do that, you know. We are free to be their friends, their ally, and their trading partner, all good things in a global economy, run largely on Israeli technological advances and protected by the Mossad's intelligence. Israelis are not flying airliners into our skyscrapers and government buildings, Muslims are doing those things.

We choose to be friends with the Israelis, because we like the Jews. Living in a free country with a free culture is wonderful!

What a joke - A country which practices laws of Apartheid is not free

BDS movement so successful Israel passes law banning boycotts

The Israeli government passed a law yesterday that allows for any Israeli person or organization calling for the boycott of Israel or the settlements to be sued by the boycott’s target without having to prove any damage was sustained.

Now that is called a fascist law against free speech.

The American government has been funding Israel's military for decades with both money and weapons.

American weapons have been used by Israel to kill Palestinians.

rr feel sorry for you shallow knowledge SS what you think

Sirhan is a Christian Arab with Jordanian citizenship[3] born in Jerusalem. When he was 12 years old, his family emigrated, moving briefly to New York and then to California. He attended Eliot Junior High School (now known as Charles W. Eliot Middle School) in Altadena, California, John Muir High School and Pasadena City College. Sirhan's father Bishara was characterized as a stern man who often beat his sons harshly, and shortly after the family's move to California

Rather the likes of Jonatahn Pollard dual nationals are more dangerous and fanatical blind supporters of Israel have brougt down the US position in the world more than once.

More half truths skirting around the truth that Sirhan was born in Jerusalem... during the mandate.... he may have had jordanian citizenship at one time ...like most palestinians... further demonstrating that Jordan is the Palestinian home..matters not that he is Christian our Muslim.... he is a deranged Palestinian Arab... who chose to kill an American political leader.. based only on the friendship of the usa and Israel....typical... that is the same reason 911 happened....Arabs killing innocent people because of their friendships and alliances.......

All of this hatred and bloodshed boils down to people fighting over a perceived "holy land". Israel/Palestine is no more "holy" than any other bit of the earths surface, and the sooner people accept it, the better. Taking another human life in the name of one's imaginary friend is never acceptable.

Someday, when the majority of the human race has moved past the ridiculous superstitions of religion, people will look at the history of this region and decry the horrors perpetrated in the pursuit of delusions.
